Inspiration

I let words fall on the page with no expectations. Sometimes I write as myself. Sometimes as my characters. My freewrites can be one sentence or several paragraphs, nonsensical syntax or the skeleton of a cohesive story. I usually don’t look at what I’ve written for several months. Sometimes I find gems, sometimes trash. I try not to judge.

I am inspired by nature, children, animals, graffiti, news stories, art, and people interacting with other people and their surroundings. I carry images around in my head. I write at the edges of sleep. I often write from photographs—usually street photography, surreal pics, something old, something weird. Pictures tell me stories.

Instagram is a great source of photos. I search hashtags to find pics that interest me or fit the mood of a current work in progress.

This is a list of Instagram accounts and websites I’m currently following. May you be inspired by their work too.
